Malaysian Cultural Entrepreneur Association (MCEA)
The Malaysian Cultural Entrepreneur Association (MCEA) is a non-profit association of Malaysian entrepreneurs involved in cultural businesses, and was founded in 2010. Under its aegis, the Association will represent the interests of cultural entrepreneurs. Its aim is to nurture the growth of this industry, to help develop the needs of the industry, and to provide a platform for Malaysian cultural entrepreneurs.
The main objective of MCEA, which has established itself as the apex body in the field of cultural business in Malaysia, is the development and growth of the culture industry.
In order to attain this, MCEA intends:
To provide an effective forum to represent the interests of its members in their professional advancement and growth.
To represent its members before any government-related bodies and international organizations, as may be deemed necessary.
To promote Malaysia Culture, within Malaysia and abroad, through strategic planning and the execution of promotional campaigns. The forum hopes to cultivate and consolidate a market base for products designed by Malaysian cultural entrepreneurs.
To facilitate international exchange and the sharing of information and expertise, to form mutually beneficial linkages with similar associations across the globe and to create a comprehensive database of labels and branding.
To organise and conduct entrepreneurial development programmes, quality awareness programmes and so on. The association, taking into account the interests of the culture industry, will decide upon these.
To develop a system of norms for members in the industry. The aims of MCEA are to provide a platform for Malaysian-made cultural business in the International arena, to address the changing needs of the industry as and when they evolve, and to foster the growth of the Malaysian Culture Industry with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and other related Governmental bodies.
What can MCEA provide as a body to the industry?
MCEA will look to conduct studies of market trends, consumer-buying cycles etc. and share this vital information with its members.
It will work towards promoting the interests of Malaysia as a country, and market Malaysian labels, creating support for the culture industry to enter mainstream culture productivity.
It will create relations between its members and related governmental bodies, retailers and manufacturers, thereby making the supply chain a smoother process.
It will educate its members on all fields that make up this growing industry. These will include workshops and seminars on design and marketing-related issues, merchandising etc and conceptualise market trends, coordinating with manufacturers and retailers for the development of cultural products etc.
It will formulate a proposal to accord industry status to the culture business and
create extensive training ventures to generate a pool of skilled workers.
The association will function as a “Job Placement Bank” for culture professionals,
collecting industry information which will be available on-line, making it easier for all parties to communicate.
Finally, it will develop specific industry information on exportation, for specific target markets.
