H2O is the chemical formula for water that is known as a colourless liquid. It will turn to colour once it is mixed with any water-based hue. ‘Water’ and ‘colour’, both is very important to the artists. Water is essential to life while colour has a direct and powerful influence on human lives and emotions. We can see colours around us and to most artists colour is very synonym to self expressions.

Water-based colour has a long history in the human history. Water-based colours had already been laid onto the surfaced of tombs by ancient Egyptians of 4500BC along with distemper, fresco and tempera, commonly used from the times of the Romans through the fifteenth century Renaissance and each one of the medium has water as the based ingredient. Today in the twenty-first century, the medium of water-based colour is still used universally and it is no less attractive. Furthermore there is no limit in exploring the medium of water-based. Hence, the challenge of water-based techniques remains exciting, refreshing and totally unpredictable.

The invention of water media such as acrylic and water colour has opened up wider possibilities in mixed media work of most among eight artists that exhibit their artworks in the ‘H2O COLOUR’ exhibition. As a young artists of Sukor Romat, Haafiz Shahimi, Siti Norhidayah Muhd Mohktar, Razlan Adnan, Faizal Suhif, Syafiq Hariz, Akmal Asyhraf and Radin Erus, they found that both media quite versatile and offer a wider range of marvelous possibilities, alluring them to explore its great contrasts and contradictions with the simplest basic techniques that shown in this exhibition.
