Lesson 1 ( 45 minutes) COLOR CHART
– The dyes are fiber –reactive, which means a chemical reaction takes place between the dye and the fabric molecules. The dye bonds with the cotton and become a part of the fabric. That is why the dyes are permanent and vibrant even after several washing.
– Mix the primary colors to secondary colors
– Assignment: create your own color chart
Lesson 2 ( 45 minutes ) T SHIRT & BAG
– A pattern of colors made by preventing the dye from reaching some areas of the fabric by using tight ties of rubber bands, sinew, string, etc
– Also part of Shibori pattern
– Assignment: designing & dyeing a t-shirt & a bag
Lesson 3 ( 60 minutes ) SCARF
– Using the hot wax, stamping technique
– Cracking the wax area to let the dye go in to the wax areas
– Soak the scarf into the dye after waxing, to create a cracking effect
– Learn how to remove the wax with boiling water and soda ash
– Assignment: waxing and dyeing a scarf
Lesson 4 ( 2 hours ) MASTER PIECE
– Design a 2 meters of 100% cotton fabric
– Mixing all the different kind of dyeing techniques include block stamping, and brush waxing, holding, tying, to have the different wax line, and cracking effect
– Assignment : design & dye a master piece of fabric with length 200cm x width 110cm |
